Architectural/Built Environment-Mixed Media

I focus on Architecture, especially Brutalism, and large slab concrete structures. These are often overlooked, or seen as problematic, but their simplicity, scale and aged material hold a beauty which I try to capture. I am also drawn to non-places, stairwells, corridors and waiting rooms. They are unfussy, unfurnished, nondescript transient areas that live in our collective memory. These pieces all start life as on-site photography, collaged, redrawn in Photoshop, and translated to canvas. Layers of colour and texture are built up with pastels, graphite, oil paints and varnish.
